Some people shy away from getting chemical peels, but why?
Let’s discuss!
The utility of peels is amazing and they can augment your skin regimen regardless of age, gender or sensitivities. Chemical peels are customizable and can be used safely on most skin types.
Chemical peels by nature are an exfoliant. They can improve the texture of your skin, help decrease hyperpigmentation, and even help to improve acne.
Chemical peels are available in different variations, from superficial to medium to deep peels. We’ll briefly discuss two of them: superficial and medium-depth peels.
Examples of two light or superficial peels: salicylic acid and glycolic acid.
These both are considered superficial peels, can be done in minutes and have little to no downtime.
There is minor discomfort during the peel, but the improvement is substantial if done consistently.
Medium depth peels are a little deeper by nature and one of our favorites is trichloroacetic acid.
These can often erase fine lines and wrinkles quicker but come with a little more down time, redness, and possible swelling.
They can be used to treat actinic damage and precancerous lesions.
They often may have some true peeling or exfoliating of the skin and a few days of downtime is likely.
The frequency of your peels:
Superficial peels are best spaced 2-4 weeks apart, whereas medium depth peels are done less often, one or twice yearly are usually sufficient.
Finally, all can be combined with dermaplaning!
Dermaplaning removes the very superficial part of the epidermis and allows for better penetration of the topical applications.
